Maximizing The Benefits Of Minimally Invasive Techniques.

Minimally invasive surgery reduces trauma and promotes fast recovery, but it hasn't always been possible for more complex procedures. Now, the Conrad|Pearson Clinic utilizes the da Vinci® Surgical System, a computer-enhanced robotic tool that allows us to perform even complex minimally invasive procedures with a new level of precision.

Unlike typical laparoscopic surgery in which the surgeon must move the instrument handles one way for the tips to move the other way, the da Vinci®, with its 3-D imagery and arms that precisely mimic the surgeon's hand movements, allows for conventional hand-eye-instrument coordination. This reduces fatigue in longer procedures and gives us increased dexterity and unwavering accuracy.

With the da Vinci® Surgical System we can significantly reduce pain, lower the risk of infection, curtail blood loss and the need for transfusions, and minimize scarring. As a result, recovery is much faster and significantly less traumatic.

The da Vinci® Surgical System

The da Vinci® Surgical System is a robotic surgical system consisting of three main components:

da Vinci® Prostatectomy

The da Vinci® System is the only operative robotic system cleared for Radical Prostatectomy procedure.

With its 3-D view, the da Vinci® Surgical System aids the surgeon in more carefully identifying vital anatomy such as the delicate nerves surrounding the prostate. The EndoWrist®TM Instruments provide the surgeon with dexterity not available using the conventional laparoscopic instruments, for performing a delicate and precise surgical dissection and reconstruction of the bladder and urethra.

The American Cancer Society estimates that annually, there are between 180,000-200,000 newly diagnosed cases of prostate cancer.
