MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - If you found yourself shopping for gifts Thursday, you probably quickly realized you weren't alone.

Thursday was a big day for retailers, as last minute shoppers hit the streets for some last minute gifts.

An East Memphis Target store we visited was packed with shoppers looking for a bargain. Shay Parson tried to get a head start on the crowds.

"I'm on my way to work and won't get off till six," Parson said. "All the stores gonna be closed, so I had to get up at seven this morning.  We've been out since seven this morning."

In North Mississippi, the parking lots were full at the Southaven Towne Center. Shopper Daisy Stowe said she did not at all mind the crowds because she was on a mission.

"Got one more shop," she said. "I'm trying to find a baseball."

For the Watts family, last minute shopping has become a family tradition which keeps them in the spirit.

"I'm in the Christmas spirit, and then we're doing it as a family, so we're picking up gift cards," Lecricia Watts said. "Tomorrow we'll be dropping them off and eating. So its family time."

Most stores will be closed Friday, which is Christmas Day, but will open Saturday for annual after Christmas sales.
