MIFA's Meels on Wheels make holiday deliveries

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Neither wind nor cold temperatures could stop the many volunteers, staff members and even Santa from their appointed rounds Friday for the annual MIFA Christmas Day Meals delivery.

Bags were loaded full of hot nutritious meals and gifts to be delivered to 800 homebound senior citizens.

"Christmas at MIFA is fabulous and this day means so much to so many people, of course to the people who are receiving the gift, meal, and visit, but it's for all the families who come in to volunteer," MIFA Executive Director Margaret Craddock said.

For volunteers like Randa Rosenblum, it is better to give than to receive.

"I started in 1983 and I loved it," Rosenblum said. "It really teaches me what the holidays are all about and how important it is to give back, and people are so grateful and have such open hearts.

Congressman Steve Cohen's office was a sponsor of today's event. Cohen said volunteering makes you feel good about yourself in the service of others.

"It's all relative," Cohen said. "You count your own blessings, and I think when you see some of the folks and what they need, how much good you do makes you feel good about yourself."
