MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The deep freeze across the Mid-South has caused many pipes to burst, and as a result, an influx of calls to MLGW for assistance.
Dr. Joe Madlinger typically has Sundays off, but the Raleigh chiropractor spent Sunday morning putting in some over time. He is just one of many cleaning up after the cold weather caused their water pipes to burst.
"The office was completely flooded, and there was probably 1 to 2 and a half inches of standing water on the floor," Madlinger said.
Madlinger said he and other doctors in his building thought insulation and other devices would prevent pipes from bursting. But the below freezing temperatures were just too much.
"This is a once in a century type of situation," Madlinger said.
MLGW said nearly 1,000 people with pipe problems have already called their emergency line to have their water turned off.
