Tigers set record for consecutive conference wins against Rice

HOUSTON, TX (WMC-TV) - Memphis Tigers coach John Pastner has said time and time again that winning is hard.  But for the University of Memphis, winning in Conference USA seems easy.

The Tigers set the record for consecutive conference wins by beating Rice 80-68 Saturday night.  Kentucky previously held the record with a streak of wins from 1950 to 1954.

Early in the game, Wesley Witherspoon appeared as if his knee gave out.  Witherspoon was on the floor, grabbing his left knee in obvious pain.

Witherspoon went to the locker room, but was quickly cleared to play.

Elliot Williams led the Tigers with 32 points.

Memphis is now the sole record holder for the most regular season conference wins with 52 and counting.

The Tigers return to Memphis Wednesday and face UTEP.
