MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Mid-South family suffered an unimaginable loss when the 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti last week.

Jean Myrtil said Thursday he lost 20 members of his family, including uncles, aunts, and cousins in the catastrophic quake.   He learned of the tragedy through text messages and email.

Myrtil said most of his family were either at work or school when the quake hit, and were killed when the buildings crumbled.

For Myrtil, mourning the loss of his family has been tough.

"I was shaking," he said. "My whole body was shaking...it's not easy."

There are still some family members that Myrtil has not heard from, and others who have been left with nothing.

Friday, Action News 5 will partner with the American Red Cross, Lipscomb and Pits, and the Citadel Radio Group to raise money for relief efforts.
