"Snow what?" Some braved the night despite the weather

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Trolleys were attached to tracks.  They were among the only things rolling downtown Friday night.  Most drivers took Action News 5's advice and stayed home.

But that did not stop some people from walking to places like Beale Street.  It is normally packed on a Friday night.  But it was practically dead due to the winter weather.

"I'm from Australia," said tourist Vivian Brewer.  "And we're just here for two days," she added.

She and her friends did not want to miss out on any fun, no matter what old man winter had in mind.

"Maybe find some live music and just chill, enjoy it, soak it all up," said Brewer.

"We came from Conway, Arkansas," Eric Everson told us.

He battled the icy roads to make an indoor volleyball tournament in Memphis.  It was a trip he said took twice the time than it normally would.

"Maybe two and a half hours," said Everson.  "And it took us maybe four and a half to get here," he added.

The Orpheum decided to cancel Friday night's performance of Jersey Boys.  That gave theater fans an excuse to stay home.  It was a luxury not shared by delivery drivers at Camy's in Midtown.

"These guys that are driving," said manager Mary Ferguson.  "They understand the concept that you've got to slow down, take your time, get the food to the customer," she added.

She said the demand for hot food always "heats up" when it's cold out from those not willing to leave their houses.

Several of the events that were canceled Friday night have already been rescheduled for later.
