Chimneyrock ready for transfer to Memphis City Schools

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Shelby County school is getting ready to make the switch to Memphis City Schools.

Chimneyrock Elementary has been a Shelby County school since it opened in 1990.  But in August, it will become a Memphis City School.

Shelby County Schools Superintendent John Aitken sent a letter home to parents last week telling them the plans for the transition are now final.

"Beginning with the  2010-2011 school year, the operation of Chimneyrock Elementary will now be administered by Memphis City Schools," Aitken said in the letter. "I am certain with your continued support, this school's great tradition of academic excellence will  continue."
