OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC-TV) - A Mississippi man is searching for help in his battle against drivers that are speeding through his neighborhood.

Jeff Bembnowski and his family moved to the Belmor Lakes subdivision of DeSoto County, just outside Olive Branch, last August. Since then, he has grown increasingly concerned about speeders there.

Now, Bembnowski wants something done about it.

"My biggest concern is my children being out there on the road riding their bikes and someone not seeing them coming down that hill," he said Wednesday.

The hill Bembnowski in concerned about crests just off the corner of his street, and although the speed limit in the neighborhood is posted at 25, he claims people rarely observe it.

Recently, Bembnowski went before the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors to plead his case.

"At least adapt some sort of policy to look into installing speed bumps," Bembnowski said he asked the Supervisors. "I'm not telling the county to install them, but adapt a policy similar to what Olive Branch has."

But Supervisors are concerned about liability issues should someone damage their vehicle while driving over a speed bump.  They are also concerned emergency vehicles might be hindered.

Dana McDaniel, a mother of three who lives around the corner, is very afraid something bad might happen.

"My husband and I were out this past weekend, and he's waving people down right and left telling them to slow down, and they don't listen," she said. "Something has to be done."

According to DeSoto County Supervisor Bill Russell, if Bembnowski's neighborhood association initiates a petition saying they would be responsible for paying for any liability issues, he would support the instillation of speed bumps.
