MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Many couples in love have said they would do anything for each other, but one Memphis couple recently proved just how far they were willing to take that.

The Reverend Carl Greer and his wife Everlean, both 62, share a close and special bond.  For the couple, who have been married for over 40 years, the past two have been quite a journey.

Suffering from an ailing kidney, Reverend Greer had to be on dialysis three days a week while he waited on a kidney transplant list.  His his prayers were answered the moment his wife was tested, and was found to be a perfect match to give him one of her kidneys.

"He always says 'since you got my rib, might as well have a kidney too'," Everlean said. "So sure enough, I had the kidney, too."

But Everlean Greer had to lose roughly 40 pounds before doctors would perform the surgery. She lost the weight by lowering her calories, cutting her portions, and walking.

Since the surgery, the couple have recovered well, and are looking forward to a bright and healthy future.

"I love my wife with all my heart," Carl said. "I would have done the same for her."

As the couple continues to recover, they hope to soon vacation in New York City.
