MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Just as Forbes declared Memphis one of America's "most miserable cities," a group of University of Memphis began plotting a response quite to the contrary!
Now, the group is going beyond Taking Back Our Neighborhoods, with a goal of restoring the pride of our entire community. The group has even created a new video you may soon see at pep rallies citywide over the next three days, called Spirit of Memphis: Fall in Love With Your City Again!
The eight minute Spirit of Memphis video features iconic city scenes and comments from 30 people who love this place.
Aubrey Tucker and Mindy Lane are two of the five University of Memphis seniors who ignited the Spirit of Memphis campaign.
"We spent a lot of time brain storming together about how we could uplift the city," Lane said. "I think we all came from a point where we knew the city needed to be uplifted; that people needed to be reminded about what's great about living in Memphis."
Dozens of Memphians were happy to appear in the video sing the city's praises just as Forbes magazine's website declared Memphis America's third "most miserable city."
Look out for the video at Spirit of Memphis pep rallies will happen at all kinds of events citywide this week. You just may find yourself falling in love with your city again.
