Beloved newspaper salesman celebrates 94th birthday

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - One of Memphis' oldest paper boys received a lot of love on his birthday Sunday from dozens of customers.

Born in 1916, Willie Herndon has been selling newspapers at Dexter and Appling Road for a very long time.

When long time customers found out their favorite newspaper man turned 94, they stopped by with gifts.

"I feel good," said Herndon.

Herndon's customers said they also felt good.

"He's a good guy," said Terry Boyd.  "He's a hard worker out here.  He's 90-something years old and I admire him for being out her making a living."

Boyd often drops by with a chair and table for where Herndon can put his papers.  For Herndon's birthday, he stopped by with a tent decorated with balloons and other birthday signs.

"Yeah, he's a good dude," Herndon said.

Herndon's customer hope he will be around to celebrate many more birthdays.
