MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Over a dozen students were charged after a large fight Monday morning at Northside Alternative School in Memphis.

Police officers and an ambulance were called to the school late in the morning after the fight, something school neighbor W. T. Smith called common.

"If you go a whole week without a fight at Northside School, that's a good week," Smith said.

No one leaving the school's campus Monday afternoon wanted to speak on camera, but off camera, students called the brawl a gang fight.  Police would not classify the fight, which Lieutenant Bill Woodard described as "mild."

"There's always the potential, but there were no weapons involved," Woodard said.

But neighbors like W. T. Smith, wary of the fighting, wondered when it would end.

"Why would they, this close to the end of school, get involved in something that would get them incarcerated?" he asked.

In all, police filed charges against 21 Northside Alternative students.  Three students were taken to 201 Poplar to be charged as adult.  The other 18 were written juvenile summons.

No students were seriously injured in the fight.
