MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Police and paramedics rushed to a home on Wind Breeze Road in Memphis early Friday afternoon after a fight between neighbors led to a shooting.

Witnesses said the incident started as a brawl between neighbors.  Helen Washington was alerted that something was wrong when she was startled by an unexpected noise.

"I heard something, like 'pop, pop' or something. It wasn't very loud," she said.

She looked out the window to find her son, Darryl Williams, on the ground.

"I said 'Oh my goodness, Darryl got hurt or something.' I didn't know what had happened. I didn't at the time he'd gotten shot," she said.

Paramedics rushed Williams to the hospital with a gunshot to the stomach.  Meanwhile, his 62-year-old neighbor was handcuffed to a stretcher and taken to a hospital with bumps and bruises.

Major Anthony Berryhill of the Memphis Police Department said the pair got into an argument.
"That verbal altercation led to a fistfight," Berryhill said. "At some point, one of the individuals pulled out a pistol and fired one shot."

Police have not yet decided what charges to file, if any.  First, they must determine what sparked the argument.

After the shooting, the accused triggerman's 91-year-old mother was rushed to the hospital, complaining of chest pains.  But what set off the clash between neighbors remains a mystery.

"What they got into it about, I don't know," Helen Washington said.

Investigators said they planned to interview both men.
