MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - An author and national radio personality is asking Memphians to become mentors.

Michael Baisden brought his One Million Mentors Tour to the Hickory Hill Community Center Friday night.  The tour is a push to recruit men to serve as mentors for youth.

Inside the community center, preparations were being made for a town hall meeting to begin.  Baisden is touring cities throughout the US for the mentoring campaign.

Many parents, including Romanita Gillard, were interested in the program.

"I just wanted to see how the program is going to be," Gillard said, "and how many people would be interested in the kids as mentors to help them in life."

The intent of the mentoring campaign is to inspire and motivate people to commit to being mentors, either one-on-one or in a group.
