MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Despite cloudy skies and light rain showers, the Ferris wheel kept spinning at the Springfest in Southaven Friday night.

"We have the whole body suits and the ponchos, raincoats, and umbrellas," said Samantha Strong who was attending the event.

With rain gear in hand, many people were not going to let the threat of severe weather dampen their day of food and fun.

"We'll head under the tent if it gets really, really bad," said Raymond Flores.  "If it gets really bad, the car is right over there.  We only live around the corner."

Kristi Faulkner, who helped organize the event, was also prepared.

"Mayor Davis and emergency management personnel have had a close look," said Faulkner.  "They've got an evacuation plan and they've got it all mapped out."

Chewing on some award-winning barbecue, Strong was gearing up for some stiff competition and entertainment no matter what the weather was.

"We've prepared everything inside," Strong said.  "We have the music inside and everything, so we're ready for the weather."

Faulkner said she did not mind getting a little wet.

"As long as it's not severe and tornados, we're just going to get wet," Faulkner said.  "We're going to be OK."
