Florida murder suspect captured in Collierville

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Orchards apartments in Collierville sit just down the street from city hall.  Many neighbors there do not know each other.

"That scares me actually," said tenant Allison Wagoner.

She never imagined one of them might be an accused killer.

"Would not have ever suspected that in this complex," said Wagoner.  "I mean, it's so nice."

But it was where the fugitive task force captured 26-year-old Jamal Brown around 12:30 Thursday afternoon.

"I am just glad that that has been removed from the community," said tenant Dorothy Love.

Police said the fugitive may have been staying with friends until two tips into the Shelby County Sheriff's Office panned out.

"I think we can say with some degree of relief that it's good to have this person off the street," said Sheriff Mark Luttrell.

Brown was wanted for killing a couple last October during a drug-related home invasion in Poinciana, Florida.  A third victim was tortured.

"And in the house where this took place was a three year-old who slept through all this," said Luttrell.

Jamal Brown was one of five suspects wanted for the crime.  He is the last to be arrested.

"It was a very good arrest and shows the collaborative effort of law enforcement in out community to keep our streets safe," said Lamont Ruffin with the U.S. Marshal's Service in Memphis.

Police credit, in part, the national media for profiling Brown's run from the law.

Officials would not reveal the exact relationship between Brown and the people with whom he may have been staying.

He will be extradited back to Florida.
