SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - Snakes and other interesting reptiles will be on display this weekend at the Arena in Southaven at "Repticon," a show all about exotic animals.

Event organizer Skip Peel said the show would have strange and unusual pets for all types.

"For the pedestrian type of person, you're gonna see turtles, tortoises, lizards, geckos, certain species that are well known, to make good pets and are very popular," he said.

According to Peel, exotic pets are growing in popularity, partially because many actually make good pets, especially for the children.

This weekend's event in Southaven will have information sessions on how to care for them.

"One of the biggest misconceptions is, 'Oh the snake chased me,'" Peel said. "It might be a coincidence if the snake is going the same way you are, but snakes do not chase people."

Peel said, fans of exotic pets or not, area residents should stop by to learn about different types of available pets.

"Even if you're just interested, we have a lot of people that come, learn a lot and enjoy it," he said.

The show begins Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
