Victim in Oakland shooting rushed to hospital

OAKLAND, TN (WMC-TV) - Willie McCulley stayed on his cell phone Tuesday evening updating family members on his son Ryan's condition.  

Ryan was shot multiple times along Bell Grove Road in Fayette County.

"I don't know nothing," said Willie McCulley.  "I don't know what happened."

Witnesses said the 25-year-old was shot while possibly speaking to a man about buying a car. McCulley then went to the home of his mother and father for help.

"My wife called and said my son Ryan had just got shot," said Willie McCulley.

"They were attempting to transport him to the hospital and saw a deputy here at the Exxon station," said Inspector Ray Garcia with the Fayette Co. Sheriff's Office.  "They flagged him down and he called paramedics to respond here to the scene."

McCulley was transported via helicopter to The MED in Memphis.

His father told his he is expected to survive.

Meanwhile, Fayette County deputies and Oakland Police combed the car in which McCulley was riding.

It creating a uncommon side show for rush hour traffic along Highway 64.

"Very unusual to see that at the gas station," said clerk Ariel Zahira.  

"The way society is it don't really surprise me a whole lot," said customer Tommy Harrell.

McCulley's father told us his son is a father himself and does not run with a rough crowd.

He just hopes the person who shot Ryan McCulley is caught.Investigators were searching for a tan or light brown mid 1990's Lincoln Town Car with a dark-colored top.  A man with dread locks was last seen behind the wheel.  Call police if you see the vehicle.
