MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - One person was critically injured Wednesday morning in a shooting at the Jefferson Square Apartments, inside a high-rise at Jefferson and Court.

The shooting happened just before 9:00 a.m. on the second floor of the building.  Georgia King, who lives on the second floor, was shocked by what she saw.

"I looked down and I seen this pool of blood," she said.

King lives just down the hall from the spot where the shooting happened.

Down the hall from the spot where one person got shot.

"I could've been the one that had caught a bullet," she said.

Officers at the scene declined comment, but a Memphis Police Department spokesperson said paramedics rushed one person to The MED in critical condition.  Police rushed another to 201 Poplar in handcuffs.

Moments after the shooting, Clement Chandler showed up to check up on family members living on the twelfth floor of the building.  Chandler said Jefferson Square is a public housing complex comprised mostly of elderly and special needs residents.

"They are kinda old people," he said. "They kinda scared."

Georgia King agreed.

"Elderly people have to pull their dressers up to the door at night or during the day because they afraid,' she said.

At the scene, a representative from the Memphis Housing Authority also declined comment.  Meanwhile, King hoped for more security.

"Something really needs to be done," she said.
