MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police are investigating the discovery of two bodies inside a high rise.

Officers responded to an the Park Tower apartments at 57 North Somerville just after 10 p.m. Saturday.  Neighbors had been complaining of odor coming from the apartment.

"I could smell it from underneath my door," sand Bryan Mays, a resident.

Officers broke down the door and found the bodies of a man and woman, both in their 20's, inside.

Mays lives a few doors down from the apartment.  Police said there were signs of foul play.

Mays and other neighbors said they heard what sounded like gunshots in the early morning hours Wednesday.

"Just like pow, pow, in close succession three times," said Wanda Stewart.

If what the neighbors heard was the killing, the man and women lay dead inside for several days.

"I saw them everyday, it was a young couple," said Michael Boyd, who lives next door.  "I saw the young guy, but he was like a typical young guy, they don't speak.  They just walk by you, you know what I mean."

Neighbors said the woman never said much either.

"I heard from an associate that sometimes they would see the young lady in the car crying," Mays said.  "She wasn't ever smiling, I never seen her smile."

Neighbors did not know the couple's names, but believe their families live out of town.

Police are not releasing the couple's names until their families can be notified.  A police spokesperson said it is unknown if police are looking for any suspects.  The cause of death has not been released.
