MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police are still trying to determine how a couple was killed inside their Memphis apartment, and why it took four days for their bodies to be found.
Police said the bodies were found inside the Park Tower Apartments, located on North Somerville, around 10:00 p.m. Saturday.
Monday, Wanda Stewart tried to cope with her neighbors' deaths, after their bodies were found inside their 8th floor apartment.
"I think it's sad, because two lives are gone," she said.
It all began after neighbors started complaining about a bad smell coming from the apartment.
"We had a foul odor throughout the weekend, and previously the week before there were some gunshots that went off early in the morning, but we didn't pay no attention to them because we didn't think they were in our building," Stewart said.
Police were notified, and found the bodies a short time later.
"They didn't have to barge in," said Park Tower manager Roxanne Simonette. "Security opened the door for police. Police went in and found them."
Monday, managers opened the window of apartment to let the fumes out.
"We're in the process of cleaning up and getting the property back up to safety," Simonette said.
Stewart says the couple was in their mid to late 20's and were from Iowa. She met them two years ago when they first moved in.
"(They were) quiet and nice," Stewart said. "She was a little timid. He was a lot more protective of her."
While investigators have not yet released the man or woman's names, they say foul play is likely. However, there have been no arrests.
"My condolences go out to the family, whenever they come or whenever they notify them," she said.
Authorities are in the process of notifying family members. Meanwhile, the official cause of death has still not yet been released.
