MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A teenager was in critical condition Tuesday after a crash between a day care center bus and a sport utility vehicle in Memphis.

Memphis police and emergency crews responded to the crash just before 8:00 a.m. near the intersection of Holmes and Whitworth.

Officials said nine people were injured in the crash, including five people on the bus and four in the SUV. The crash occurred at a southside intersection, and police indicated the bus driver failed to stop.

The crash caused the SUV to flip and strike a utility pole, ejecting a 17-year-old girl who was the most seriously injured of those involved. She was taken to the Regional Medical Center. Other victims were taken to two other hospitals.

Police ticked the bus driver with failure to yield. Meanwhile, witness Carl Newsom said Tuesday's wreck was just the latest example of the problems at this intersection.

"People fail to pay attention to what they're doing," he said. "We tend to speed down here."

Police have not released the names of any of the people involved in the crash.  Officials said the bus involved in the accident is owned by The Foundation of Learning, a church-operated school in South Memphis.
