MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis Tigers basketball head coach Josh Pastner and his wife Kerri welcomed a new member to their family Thursday.

News of the impending arrival spread quickly across Twitter when Pastner checked Kerri into the hospital Thursday morning.  A few hours later, the Pastners welcomed a bouncing baby girl into their wild world of sports.

On the University of Memphis campus, Tiger fans said starting today, coaching takes on a whole new meaning.

"Congratulations and good luck," Tiger basketball fan Linzie Oswalt said.

"I had one not too long ago, and it's nothing more than the biggest blessing you can ever have," Bill Komulainen added at the Tiger Bookstore.

Fans laughed that Pastner's baby might be a rare girl that is required to wear more blue than pink. Komulainen said Coach Pastner should be prepared to squeeze a few naps into his already busy schedule.

"Plan to be up at night all the time," he laughed.

Payton Sydney Pastner was born at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, and weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces. School officials said mother and baby are both doing well.

Meanwhile, Coach Pastner won't have a whole lot of time to catch up on his sleep. It may be the off season, but his summer basketball academy starts next Tuesday.
