MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Mississippi high school student who was not allowed to bring her girlfriend to the prom will attend a dance in Memphis this weekend.

Constance McMillien will be the guest of honor at the prom sponsored by the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center.

McMillen's senior prom was canceled when the school would not allow her to bring her girlfriend as a date.

"It's a prom for everyone," said Will Batts of the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center.  "We asked her to come because we wanted her to have a positive prom experience."

McMillen sued her Mississippi school district, saying she was publicly humiliated.

Batts said Saturday's prom is just about having fun and anyone over 18 is welcome.

"One of those things we want people to know is that this is not just for high school students," Batts said.  "It's not just for gay and lesbian people."

The theme of the prom is "If I Could Turn Back Time."  It will be held at the Doubletree Hotel downtown this Saturday night from 8 until midnight.  Tickets are $50 a person or $80 for a couple.  You can purchase tickets at the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center on South Cooper or call them at (901) 278-6422.
