MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A mother who left her baby in a hot car outside a Bartlett Sam's Club faced a judge Wednesday.

Sarah Horn is charged with child abuse, neglect or endangerment.  Horn is out of jail on a $1,000 bond.

Neighbor Geraldine Toombs could not believe a mother would leave a child in a hot car.

"I cannot imagine," Toombs said.  "I would never do anything like that to my babies."

Bartlett firefighters had to break a window to get the four-month-old boy out after he was left alone for 30 minutes in temperatures over 90 degrees.

A witness discovered a baby in the car crying and sweating profusely.

According to police, Horn said she dropped her other children off at her parents' house and went to Sam's Club for an eye doctor appointment.  She said she forgot her infant son was in the back seat.

"Well, I don't know," said Toombs.  "It's been a long time since I've had babies, but I ain't fixing to forget my grandchildren in heat like this."

Action News 5 stopped at Horn's house, but no one answered.  A family member answered a phone call.  They refused to comment but said the baby was OK.
