MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Tri-State Defender, one of the oldest and most respected newspapers in the Mid-South, has entered into a news partnership with Action News 5.
The partnership's goal is to enhance the news coverage provided by both organizations.
"Its just a great opportunity for two historic media outlets," said Bernal Smith, publisher and president of the newspaper.
Smith said his paper's partnership with Action News 5 will include the sharing of news stories and information covering issues important to the Mid-South.
"There will be a lot of joint opportunities," he said. "Joint advertising, joint marketing, communication and various things that are important programmatically and news-wise for both entities."
Management at both organizations say the new partnership, between one of the nation's oldest newspapers and the oldest television station in the Mid-South, will be a win-win situation for readers and viewers.
"We'll submit our top stories and headlines to Channel 5 during the week," Smith said. "Then on Wednesday during the 5pm newscast, and on Thursday mornings during the morning broadcast on Action News 5, you guys will provide that information to your viewers."
According to Smith, the Tri-State Defender's commitment to the community is a mission that started back during the Civil Rights Movement.
Tri-State Defender headlines will begin appearing on Action News 5 next week.
