MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Celebrity chef Paula Deen was in Memphis today helping others put food on the table.

As part of her partnership with Smithfield Foods, Dean delivered a truckload of Smithfield hams that will stock the shelves of the Mid-South Food Bank.

Deen's visit was part of the Feeding the Hungry Coast to Coast Tour.

"We made a pact that we were going to feed over 20 million people over the next two to three years," Deen said, "so we're doing what we promised."

Between stops, Deen was at the CMT Music Awards in Nashville Wednesday where she was on stage with the cast of MTV's reality show Jersey Shore.

Despite her lighthearted personality, Deen said she is no stranger to hard time.

"I've been in a position where I needed that ham," Deen said, "and if you've ever been there, you won't forget it."

Deen's maid was recently arrested for allegedly attempting to steal and pawn $100,000 worth of her jewelry.

"It's one of those things that I would love to put behind me and forget because it was very hurtful," Deen said.

The celebrity chef is moving on and using her recipe for success to inspire others to remember their local food bank.

"While you may be in a very comfortable zone, there are people out there that are in jeopardy," Deen said.  "No child in our country should ever go to bed hungry."
