Pet food plant in Dumas to expand, add jobs

DUMAS, AK (AP) - A pet food plant in Dumas that was badly damaged in a 2007 tornado is under new ownership that plans to expand and nearly double the number of jobs.

Officials with Dad's Pet Care of Meadville, Pa., said Friday the company will spend $10 million and add 44 jobs to the southeast Arkansas facility.

The plant already had 59 workers. The new positions include microbiologists, managers, technicians and other workers. All the new jobs will be full-time.

The state is giving Dad's a 5-year, 4% income tax credit on payroll for the new jobs. The company also gets a sales tax rebate on equipment and materials for the expansion.

The former Arkat plant was founded by catfish farmers to make fish feed and expanded later into pet foods.
