BOLTON, TN (WMC-TV) - One person was killed Tuesday in an accident involving an ATV in northeast Shelby County.

Deputies said the crash happened while two people were riding along a stretch of Osborntown Road that was closed to traffic near Godwin Road after flooding last month.

Investigators said the all-terrain vehicle apparently crashed through a barricade and then dropped several feet into a hole in the road.

"When we came to the scene the barricades appear to have been moved," said Brent Perkins of the Shelby County Fire Department.

The driver of the ATV, 18-year-old Tava Collier of Bolton, died at the scene. His 19-year-old passenger, Orlando Kilpatrick, was taken to The MED in serious condition.

Investigators said Kilpatrick called for help from his cell phone.

"He said there had been a crash," said Shelby County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Steve Shular. That they were in a hole. He was down in a ravine a hole. He said his partner was not moving and he was very scared for his condition as well as his own. He needed help immediately."

Some family members were upset, because when they arrived, they were told Collier be airlifted to The MED.

"We want some answers," said Collier's aunt, Jawanna Terry. "Why didn't they take him to The MED like they told us they was going to?

Investigators said Collier died at the scene, and that's why he was not transported.

Investigators said neither teen was wearing a helmet.
