OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC-TV) - A would-be car thief in Olive Branch got more than he bargained for when he attempted to steal a Cadillac from a home Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, Olive Branch resident Demario Marr was inside his home on State Line Road Tuesday when he heard a car door shut outside.

Looking out a window, Marr saw a man in the driver's seat of his father's Cadillac, which was sitting in the driveway.

"I said. 'Man, what are you doing?' He jumps out of the car and started running. I had flip-flops on so I couldn't run as fast. By the time he got to the bottom of the driveway, I caught him," Marr said.

Marr, who played football at Ole Miss, bolted out the door - wearing flip flops - and chased down the suspect.

Olive Branch police arrived at the scene a short time later and took the suspect, 18-year-old Cody Cole of Olive Branch, into custody.

Major Tim Presley of the Olive Branch Police Department commended Marr on his instincts and quick feet.

"People work hard for their stuff." Presley said. "We understand they want to try and protect it, and we love when we work together to catch the bad guy."

Cole is being held in Olive Branch on $50,000 bond.
