WIDENER, AR (WMC-TV) - Detectives believe an argument over a woman is why 62-year-old Anna Mae Banks was shot execution-style Thursday.

St. Francis County Sheriff Bobby May said the suspect, 34-year-old Walter Brooks, took out his revenge on the woman.

"Mrs. Bank's son and Walter Brooks shared a girlfriend," May said, "and apparently there was some disagreement between the two men."

Brooks is charged with capital murder for killing Mrs. Banks and attempted murder for trying to kill her husband before his gun jammed.  Brooks was released from prison in February after serving 16 years for rape.

Three men arrested along with Brooks Thursday have been cleared of murder charges.  One of them told detectives that Brooks paid him 10 dollars to drive him to Widener.

Rick Britt, the victim's son, said Brooks deserved equal punishment.

"I feel like they should die too," Britt said.

Mrs. Banks left behind eight children and multiple grandchildren.

Brooks is being held without bond, which is customary in a capital murder case.
