MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis man was arrested after he called to report a robbery because the stolen money was won through illegal gambling.

Alonzo Liggins was robbed after playing dice on the street near Mosby and Dunlap.

Charles Richard, a friend of Liggins, said he does not buy the story Liggins told police.

"World's dumbest criminal," Richard said.  "He said he was robbed ... he wasn't robbed."

Officers said they arrested Liggins for gambling because he admitted to it.  They also said he reeked of alcohol and was unstable on his feet.  When they searched him, they found 13 individually-wrapped plastic bags of marijuana totaling 17 grams.  Liggins said that could not be right because he smoked and sold some of it.

"He knows he had that," Richards said.  "He's just a big dummy."

Liggins apparently has some driving issues with multiple arrests for driving without a license, speeding and being a habitual motor vehicle offender.

Liggins is being held on $35,000 bond.
