COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC-TV) - The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway hit record numbers this year.  For the lucky winner of the home, it was more than just a contest.

Judy Deming, the winner of the home, happens to be named after Saint Jude, the patron saint of the impossible.  She has bought a ticket every year for the last six years.

"I just can't believe it," Deming said. :I thought somebody was playing a joke when they called to say I had won."

Deming said St. Jude has a special place in her heart, while Danny Thomas, the founder of St. Jude, has a special place in the heart of her husband, John Deming.

"Danny Thomas, it's hard to say," he said. "He's done so much for children.  We're older and we were around when he started this.  Just a wonderful job."

And Judy Deming says years ago, when her niece's son was sick, she saw first hand how the hospital reaches out her family.

"My niece's son had leukemia when he was five," Judy Deming said.  "He's now 20 and they cured him and he's amazing."

The Southern Serenity Home, worth more than half a million dollars, is located in the Harvest Oaks community of Collierville, Tennessee.

This year, the giveaway raised $1,254,000.

A deadly virus is threatening the crawfish industry in Southwest Louisiana. It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
