MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - One firefighter was injured while battling a blaze Tuesday morning at a north Memphis church.
The fire at Light of Glory International Church was reported around 8 a.m. Tuesday. Memphis Fire Lt. Wayne Cooke said more than 60 firefighters were able to control the fire by 8:55 a.m.
Cooke says the cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. Smoke was visible for miles and the building's roof partially collapsed.
Pastor Stephen Brown rushed to the church as soon as he heard the news.
"My mind was just blown," he said. "When I walked up, it was 100 times worse than what I had imagined."
A 45-year-old firefighter was taken to a hospital with heat exhaustion and high blood pressure.
Cooke said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Meanwhile, Brown said the church's spirit would pull it through.
"I know this one thing: that this too shall pass, and Light of Glory International Church will go on," he said.
