The Merry-Go-Round of NBA Free Agency startede Thursday11pm Memphis Time...
That's when Grizzlies Forward Rudy Gay could begin fielding offers from other teams..
The Grizz threw out a Pre-emptive strike Wednesday afternoon by giving Gay a Qualifying offer.
Terms were not announced, but it's believed to be somewhere North of the $4 and a half Million dollar he made last year.
The Grizzlies HAD extended him a 5-year $50 Million Dollar contract before last season, but he rejected it.
By making a qualifying offer to Gay, who's a restricted Free Agent, the Grizz now have the right to match ANY offer he gets from another team.. something Memphis owner Michael Heisley has repeatedly said he will do.
Given his 4-years in the League and 20 point, 6-rebound a game productiviity, Gay could receives offers of more than $13-Million a year.
Rudy made just over $4.4 Million last season.
Offer Sheets can be signed July 8th.
The Grizzlies would have a week to match.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly making the biggest push to get Gay from Memphis.
The New Jersey Nets are also said to covet Gay's talents, and recently traded Forward Yi Jianlian for $3-Million Cash to make something happen.
The Nets, who were the NBA's worst team last season, have about $30-Million Dollars to spend on Free Agency.
