MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Businesses and residents in the Fox Meadows area of Memphis said rival gangs are to blame for an early morning crime spree Friday.

There are two new panes of glass on the front of Lawson's Cleaners in Fox Meadows.  Owner Steve Fisher believes the windows of his family's dry cleaning business were collateral damage in a dispute between rival gangs.

"You can't go back here and pick out your size clothes," Fisher said.  "So, they're not interested in that."

Fisher said a number of businesses have been hit by someone just being mean.

"Done him next door, tobacco store," Fisher said.  "They're done the Chinese store."

Up to 15 vehicles were vandalized in a nearby apartment complex, including Ivan Miller's Chevy Blazer.

"It cost me damn near $500 today just to get everything put back together," Miller said.

There was broken glass on the ground where his car was parked.

"They didn't take my truck," Miller said.  "All they did was take my stereo out, tore my dash up and my four-wheel drive out."

Miller said a resident caught one of the suspects in the act and shot him in the rear end, but he still got away with a car stereo.

"It really don't make no sense," Miller said.

Residents said they are willing to take matters into their own hands.

"I used to close at 6:30," Fisher said.  "Now I've had to close at 5:00."
