MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police arrested a man for bringing a loaded gun onto Beale Street early Friday morning after a confrontation outside a popular downtown club.

According to a police report, Bobby Davis managed to get onto Beale Street around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning with a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson.  It happened while 150 people were still on Beale.

Tourist Rebecca McKnight from Indiana said she still felt safe.

"I feel pretty safe," McKnight said.  "They've been monitoring as we've been walking up and down."

According to a police report, Davis went to his car and got the weapon and started brandishing it in front of Club 152.

Investigators said Davis threatened to kill or do bodily harm to the people he was fighting with.

This, along with other fights, has prompted the Beale Street Merchants Association to consider charging cover just to get on Beale Street on weekends.  People who paid the $10 cover charge would get $8 back in "Beale Street Buck" that could be spent on the street.  The plan is designed to keep people from loitering on Beale Street.
