FRIARS POINT, MS (WMC-TV) - Police are still investigating a shooting at an apartment complex in Coahoma County that claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy.

Sunday afternoon, sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting outside an apartment complex in Friars Point, Mississippi, a small town just outside of Clarksdale.  When they arrived, they found two people critically wounded.

According to authorities, Charles Banks, 25, and his stepson Corderrick Simon were both shot numerous times.  Banks was pronounced dead at the scene while Simon died on the way to the hospital.

Neighbor Towanda Ashley said the shooting was a result of a disagreement the night before.

"They shot the 8-year-old child because he could identify the men," Ashley said.  "I think that's bad, they shot the child."

Coahoma County Sheriff's Department and Clarksdale Police caught the suspect, Frederick Johnson, in Clarksdale within two hours.  He was charged with two counts of murder and possession of a firearm.

Ashley said the victims only lived in the complex about two weeks.  She said she was glad the suspect is now behind bars.

"That's wrong," Ashley said.  "God's going to punish them the way he should."
