Authorities charge teen with lying to police about shooting

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) – Authorities have charged a 16-year-old Memphis boy with lying to officers about a Wednesday shooting that left a 13-year-old hospitalized.

According to police, the shooting happened late Wednesday morning.  The 16-year-old, Andrae Flowers, told officers that he and his brother were walking in the 3200 block of Dothan when a man approached and attempted to rob them.

During the struggle, Flowers told police, the man shot his brother in the back.

Thursday, a Memphis police spokesperson said officers have determined that there was no robbery attempt, and that Flowers had accidentally shot his brother.

Police have charged Flowers with false reporting and reckless endangerment.

After the shooting, the 13-year-old was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in non-critical condition.
