Neighbors voice uncertainty as skull investigation continues

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Thursday at the Raleigh Pines Apartments, just feet from a leftover 'missing man' flyer, neighbors wondered what happened to Rufus Branch.

Branch, 69, vanished in early June.  Earlier this week, a skull mysteriously showed up on the front lawn of a nearby house.  Wednesday, the skull was confirmed as Branch.

"I don't think they're going to find the rest of him," neighbor Eric Williams said. "But it will be good if they do."

But what happened to Rufus Branch, and where is the rest of his body?

"I hope to hell I don't walk up on a leg," neighbor Stanley "Bull" Shaw said.

Shaw shuddered at the thought, hoping investigators find the remainder of the body soon.

Thursday, for a third straight day, officers returned to Old Raleigh LaGrange Road.

"They got Raleigh saturated," Shaw said.

Investigators concentrated their search efforts on a nearby cemetery, and the rest of the woods surrounding the area.  Neighbors estimated the team of cops at nearly two dozen.

"They had the dogs out like they were looking for the remains of the body," Williams said.

A still missing body, of a previously missing man.

"He wasn't even, what, 500 yards from here? Right around the corner. Man that's messed up," Shaw said.

If you have information that can help police solve this case, or find the rest of Rufus Branch's remains, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
