Man accused of exposing himself near playground

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis Police said they caught a man in the act of fondling himself Thursday at a small park near Hickory Hill and Raines Roads.

Police said the park was filled with children at the time when they caught 25-year-old Paul Thomas.  Thomas was hauled to 201 Poplar.

"As a parent, that is real disgusting," said Querida Chapman.

Chapman and her family were relieved to learn Thomas was no longer around.

"Yeah, it's good," said Chapman, "because that's real crazy."

According to the affidavit of complaint, an officer was called to the area after someone complained about a man exposing himself.

"The officer made the scene and observed the suspect masturbating with his genitals being at full exposure," the affidavit stated.

"Buck naked," said a woman who identified herself only as a regular visitor to the park.

She said she has seen that before in the very same park.

"They be some folks up here buck naked," she said.  "I know that."

While allegedly caught red-handed by a police officer, there was a good chance firefighters would have eventually seen Thomas as well.  The the park in which Thomas was accused of exposing himself is located right next to a fire station.

Paul Thomas is being held on a $1,000 bond.
