MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police are searching for the people who gunned down a well-known hip hop artist Monday in his own front yard.
Michael Goins was killed in the Monday morning shooting in the 1000 block of Parkland Road.
Goins' death means Candace Fuqua's daughter will have to grow up without her father.
"I have an 18-month-old child," Fuqua said. "I'm going to have to explain to her what happened, and I don't even know what happened, but I know she doesn't have a father now. He's gone."
Goins, who is also known as "Dirty Mike" or "Shack," was shot multiple times during what investigators believe may have been a home invasion.
"We ran right outside and saw Shack lying there face down on the ground," said a witness, Bo Moore.
"It's a body lying out there in the street for probably 100 dollars or something," Fuqua added. "It's just not right."
Fuqua said Goins was a local recording artist for "Money by Da Pound Records." His neighbor, Dana Jones, said he loved music, and recently released a CD.
"I knew he was really into his music," she said. "He was a real kind hearted person."
While investigators aren't releasing many details about the incident, they are searching for a motive and suspects.
Fuqua said it's time for the violence to stop.
"I just hope they find them, whoever it is," she said. "It was a senseless crime, and you're going to pay the time. That's just the end of the story."
So far no arrests have been made. Police say the suspects may be driving a tan or beige colored car. If you have any information that can help authorities, call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
