Tennessee's prep basketball tournaments will be staying in Murfreesboro for 2006 and 2007

Memphis lost its bid to get the State basketball tournament here in West Tennessee.

The Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association's Board of Control will keep the tourney in Murfreesboro.

What seemed like a slam dunk going in, ended up being Goal-tended by the State's Governing Body for High School Sports, the TSSAA.

Murfreesboro will keep both the Boys and Girls State tournaments through 2007, beating out Memphis and Chattanooga.

The Memphis bid, as presented by the Sports Authority, along with Nike and the NBA Grizzlies, was only for the Boys event.

It would have been played in the New FedExForum.

The $250-Dollar Guarantee to the TSSAA, plus Free Hotel Rooms and other perks for teams made other bids pale in comparison.

But because the same wasn't bid for the Girls event, Sports Authority Chairman Tiffany Brown says the TSSAA would have had to eat up any profit to make up the difference.

Tiffany Brown, Sports Authority Director said, the Sports Authority will bid on both Boys and Girls events for 2008-and-9.
