HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR (WMC-TV) - Investigators are asking who is responsible for a shooting in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas.

Eugene Wilson has lived in the area for many years and said crime is becoming a major problem.

"To me, I'm an old man," said Wilson. "I'd be scared to go somewhere at night."

Two people were injured around 12:30 Tuesday morning after a suspect fired multiple shots at a home in the 800 block of Walker Street. One of the victims was transported to the MED in serious condition. The other victim received minor injuries.

"If he came in my house, I'll shoot him," said Wilson. "If I'm awake and he is in there, he ain't going to get out."

With a population of roughly 6,300 people, Helena-West Helena has seen its share of violence recently. According to authorities, Helena-West Helena had five murders last year. So far, in 2010, there have been four.

Wilson said fighting crime is a challenging job for police, but agreed more needed to be done to keep violence off the streets.

"I think they are doing the best they can," said Wilson. "There are no jobs here. Nothing for the young fellows to do but get into something."
