Authorities raid Denim and Diamonds

A Mid-South nightclub was shut down as a public nuisance Thursday night.

Just before 9:00 p.m., the Shelby County District Attorney, Memphis police and members of the Metro Gang Unit raided and padlocked Denim and Diamonds at Winchester and Mendenhall.

There were no arrests.

The nightclub will remain closed until at least June 17th. That's when the owners of the club are scheduled to appear in court for a hearing.

Police have been called to the area around Denim and Diamonds numerous times over the years, at least 30 times since January first.

Neighbors say crime and the club go hand and hand and many of them are fed up.

Recently, Jerry Harris said he's had enough of his neighbor, Denim and Diamonds, and he's moving

For nine years, Harris said he put up with loud noise, traffic, beer bottles and other problems.

The latest incident was an early morning shooting.

Memphis police arrested a man who they say shot and killed another man after a fight at the nightclub.

Police say Nichlous "Nick" Maxwell turned himself into officers Wednesday.

He's charged with killing Prentice Moore last month after the two got into an argument at the club.

The actual shooting happened on Mendenhall near Cottonwood.
