Students hold fundraiser for classmate struck by lightning

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Southwind High School students spent Saturday raising money for an injured classmate.

Students held a carwash at the school to raise funds for Tierney Bourage, who was struck by lightning on the first day of the school year.

Bourage spent weeks at LeBonheur Children's Hospital and is now in an Atlanta hospital for rehabilitation.

Family members said Bourage is getting stronger every day.

Students hope to raise $5,000 by October 8 through various fundraisers.

A bank fund has been set up to help with her medical expenses.  Donations are being taken at any First Tennessee Bank branch.
