MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Action News 5 is sending a "High 5" to the people at Habitat for Humanity.

Monday was designated World Habitat Day by the United Nations General Assembly to draw attention to the need for decent, affordable housing all over the world.

Locally, to celebrate, the organization dedicated dozens of homes across the Mid-South. Organizers called Monday a big day locally for Habitat for Humanity.

"Today we are celebrating the first homes to be built in our first-ever planned development called Trinity Park," Habitat's Dwayne Spencer said. "When we are done, we will have 38 Habitat homes built in this community."

Habitat for Humanity was able to purchase 44 lots in Raleigh, and build 23 homes with $2.7 million.

The organization also rehabbed two homes in the Hickory Hill area.
