MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Memphis Tigers kicked off the basketball season Friday with Memphis Madness at FedEx Forum.

Excited fans pounded the pavement as they lined up for a celebration of Tiger basketball's return to the national spotlight.

For many fans, Memphis Madness was just the beginning.  Thousands also visited Beale Street.

"We plan to get something to eat," said Tigers fan Michelle Malone when asked if she would be going to Beale Street.  "We'll be going somewhere."

For restaurant and bar owners, the return of basketball means more patrons, as well as preparing to accommodate huge crowds.

"Extra staffing, of course," said Alfred's on Beale manager Brad Glover.  "We have to staff up our cooks on the line and our servers on the floor also."

Glover said crowds will help bring an extra boost to local sales.

"The Forum's packed," said Glover.  "Last year, they even had to cut the doors off.  There's 18,000 people.  That's doing good things for Downtown Memphis and Memphis in general."

Fans said they did not mind spending extra money for more fun on and off the court.

"We've got a good year ahead of us, we've got a good team," said Glover.  "Hopefully everything will go good this year."
