JACKSONVILLE, FL (NBC) - A Jacksonville, FL congregation wants the person who stole their air conditioners to know just how they feel about it. So they are using a sign from "God."
In front of Normandy Park Baptist Church, a sign reads, "To whoever stole my air conditioners, you are going to need them - God."
Someone broke into fenced cages behind the church Friday night and didn't just take parts but stole the entire units. It will cost the small church about $4,000 to replace them.
"[We're] really just disappointed, disappointed somebody would do that and take the time to come and steal from a church," said the Rev. Troy Dixon, pastor of Normandy Park Baptist Church.
Thieves are targeting air conditioning units in homes and businesses across Jacksonville. Not even churches are immune. Services went on uninterrupted Sunday, but Dixon is upset that someone would target a congregation.
"Especially when you know how much sacrifice people put in to support the house of God," Dixon said. "This is a congregation of families who set aside a portion of their income to support the church."
Church members would like to see some justice for the thief, but as far as the church, Dixon says they're moving on.
"It was to let them know, no matter what you do, you don't knock us down," Dixon said. "The Lord continues to strengthen us and we continue to move forward with the mission he's given us."
